چکیده

Auditory evoked potentials acquired with frequency-specific stimuli are useful in estimating hearing sensitivity in difficult-to-test patients. Stimulus characteristics, test methods, strengths, and limitations of the auditory brainstem response, SN10 response, middle latency response, and 40-Hz response are reviewed. Clinical strategies using frequency-specific stimuli are suggested for the evaluation of children and adults.

Analysis of the EEG bispectrum, auditory evoked potentials and the EEG power spectrum during repeated transitions from consciousness to unconsciousness.

We have compared the auditory evoked potential (AEP) index (a numerical index derived from the AEP), 95% spectral edge frequency (SEF), median frequency (MF) and the bispectral index (BIS) during alternating periods of consciousness and unconsciousness produced by target-controlled infusions of propofol. We studied 12 patients undergoing hip or knee replacement under spinal anaesthesia. During ...

Sensory information processing during general anaesthesia: effect of isoflurane on auditory evoked neuronal oscillations.

There is evidence from neuropsychological and psychophysical measurements that sensory information is processed in discrete time segments. The segmentation process may be described as neuronal oscillation at a frequency of 30-40 Hz. Stimulus-induced neuronal oscillations of this frequency are found in the middle latency range of the auditory evoked potential (AEP). We have studied the effect of...

Characterization of legumain.

The mammalian legumain, also called asparaginyl endopeptidase (AEP), is critically involved in the processing of bacterial antigens for MHC class II presentation. In order to investigate the substrate specificity of AEP in the P1' position, we created a peptide library and digested it with purified pig kidney AEP. Digestion was less efficient only when proline was in the P1' position. Maximum A...

The discriminant power of simultaneous monitoring of spontaneous electroencephalogram and evoked potentials as a predictor of different clinical states of general anesthesia.

Spontaneous or evoked electrical brain activity is increasingly used to monitor general anesthesia. Previous studies investigated the variables from spontaneous electroencephalogram (EEG), acoustic (AEP), or somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP). But, by monitoring them separately, the available information from simultaneous gathering could be missed. We investigated whether the combination of...

The characteristics and prognosis of patients fulfilling the Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol in a medical admission unit; a prospective observational study

BACKGROUND To examine the prognostic significance of fulfilling at least one of the Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol (AEP) criteria. METHODS Prospective observational cohort study at medical admission units at a regional teaching hospital in Denmark. 3,050 consecutively admitted patients were included, median age 66 (IQR: 50-77), 48% female. We assessed the fulfilment of the AEP criteria an...
